Skills Support for the Workforce (SSW) is a programme developed to upskill employees within small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Black Country. The programme provides recognised accredited qualifications and bespoke training courses to enhance  employees’ skills, increase the competitiveness of  businesses and boost the local economy.

The Tess Group is part of Serco’s network of expert organisations chosen to deliver the SSW programme. SSW is co-financed by the European Social Fund and the Education and Skills Funding Agency.

Our client Mode Security Group is a security solutions provider based in the Black Country.

Their key activities are:

  • Uniform Manned Guarding
  • Asset Protection
  • Events and Safety Stewards
  • Mobile Patrols
  • Door Supervisors
  • Key Holding & Alarmed Response

They provide the above services all across the Black Country area. The support towards SSW funding qualifications (such as NVQ L2 Customer Service & Spectator Safety) enabled them to develop their staff and work safely in the workplace, whilst providing a high quality service to the customers.

Both Customer Service and Spectator safety training was identified during the needs analysis stage. Firstly, delivering a high quality service is crucial to them keeping business as highlighted above, and therefore the development of their teams communication and service skills is key.

In addition to this it is crucial that teams work safely wherever their workplace may be and therefore spectator safety is important for this and also desirable to clients when going for business. This enables them to both sustain and grow. Peer to peer feedback has been very useful in terms of taking part in the training and customers are happy to receive a high level service. Team productivity has increased as a result of working more efficiently and safely.
